You’ve probably heard of digestive enzyme supplements or may even take them, but understanding how they can support the body may be new to you. The easiest way to explain it is our body uses various enzymes to break down our food, help us absorb the nutrients and therefore take the burden off the entire digestive system. Our body naturally has enzymes but often these reserves are depleted due to diets high in processed foods, so that is where supplementing comes into play.
The obvious issues digestive enzymes can help with are gas, bloating and indigestion, but what most don’t realize is that they can greatly impact your metabolism, and therefore your weight loss efforts. If you are eating foods that are hard to digest, then your body’s efforts are focused on digestion, and metabolism goes on the back burner. However, if you incorporate digestive enzymes into your supplement program, and/or eat a simpler plant-based diet, the burden is taken off the digestive system and your metabolism soars!
