Vitamin C

Flu Fighters 2Now this is the obvious one; I know you’re thinking of course Vitamin C boosts the immune system. But have you ever wondered why? Why not A or K or B? As discussed previously about Vitamin D, Vitamin C boosts white blood cell production. There is a direct correlation between low levels of Vitamin C and infection. Great sources are guava, peppers, oranges, kiwi, strawberries, Brussels sprouts, cantaloupe and similar foods. My favorite liquid supplement is Sea Buckthorn (100% pure)-it has up to 15 times the Vitamin C found in oranges!

Selenium

Not only does selenium boost the immune system, it also positively affects blood pressure, reduces inflammation and supports detoxification. Pretty cool! As a super-antioxidant, it actually helps protect the body by scavenging free radicals that harm cells. I was just reading how we product 500-1,000 cancerous cells every day and our immune system regularly destroys them to keep us healthy. Selenium supports that process. Although selenium is found in fruits and vegetables, with the reality of our soil depletion, we really need to look at supplement form as well.

Probiotics

Marketing companies have jumped on the probiotics band wagon, as probiotics are commonly found in many foods at the grocery store that never used to be before. With 70% of our immune function taking place in our gut, the environment of our digestive system is very important. Ideally we have more good bacteria than bad, but generally Americans have the opposite. Supplementing with probiotics, the good bacteria, can help turn those numbers around. We need to replenish daily so I recommend a Super Fruit Probiotic that has 45 billion CFUs per serving.

As you can see, there are many safe and effective ways for you to naturally boost your immune system. Incorporate these six supplements into your daily regimen to properly protect yourself. Eat right, sleep tight, and you’ll be heading into spring healthy and happy!
