Butter is BackWhether or not you are one that got sucked into the “I can’t believe it’s not butter!” craze, it’s time to toss out the margarine and pick up some good old-fashioned butter. Yes, butter! This can be hard for some to hear, as we have been so heavily marketed to believe butter is bad, but the research is simply too compelling to deny it any longer. Here is a really good article summarizing the top 7 health benefits of butter, but here are my 3 favorites:

  • It is high in CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) which is a fatty acid that has been proven in dozens of studies to be key in burning belly fat
  • Butter is a great source of butyrate, which is a 4-carbon fatty acid that can possibly prevent weight gain by increasing calorie burn and even reduce how much we eat
  • Surprisingly, the latest research has discovered that high-fat dairy such as butter is associated with a lower risk of obesity

Nourishing TraditionsIf you’re thinking about getting back on the butter band wagon, just make sure you look for grass-fed or pasture butter-this is really important! Cows are supposed to eat grass, not grains, and whatever they eat, you eat. And of course go for organic! If you want to learn how butter has been used for centuries, check out the book, Nourishing Traditions-it’s phenomenal.
